Happy Spring! In the Spirit of Gardens & Grace, Blessings & Seeds ~
Namaste Beloveds,
Spring greetings of faith filled flowers smiling the face of grace! Emerson said, God laughs in flowers. So God is in very good humor around here these days. We are blessed with abundant blooms! Despite still chilly temps, trees & bulbs are in blossom giving testimony to not only God's sense of humor but of the amazing grace that is pervasive on this planet. Here at New Thought Families, we are embracing the face of grace, peace & goodness by sowing seeds; planting our planet with attention to our own gardens. We invite you & your children to consciously plant seeds for what you want to grow within your hearts, your homes, community, the world ... Everything we do ~ & don't do ~ is all part of God's Garden. We are all flowers at least some of the time. And yes, we probably do make God laugh?! As our flowers are smiling, March is a merry month of celebrations. Thank you for meeting with us here for mystical merriment! |

The list of Irish saints is past counting; but in it all no other figure is so human, friendly, and lovable as St. Patrick - who was an Irishman only by adoption. ~Stephen Gwynn
Below is a "children's" version of St. Patrick's Prayer followed by a stanza from a more full length version that is prayed every morning by Celtic Monks. St. Patrick was an early day evangelist for Christ converting many throughout Irelend. He first endured slavery & a miraculous, blessed journey home where he then began his walking ministry. His "Breastplate Prayer" speaks to protection.
Prayer of Saint Patrick:
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, and in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
Here's a stanza from the "Celtic Monk" version of St. Patrick's Breastplate Prayer:
I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward,
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Growing Grace
Plants cry their gratitude for the sun in green joy.
~Astrid Alauda
Remember the nursery rhyme, "Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?" Even though Mary's garden had pretty flowers blooming in rows, we know well enough what a contrary attitude & spirit can yield in our lives. So given the thought that too much fertilzer in our inner garden can bury the blooms, just why did contrary Mary's garden grow so well? Grace. In traditional theology, grace is received as "unmerited divine assistance", a gift of mercy from God. Like gardens, the concept of grace is held worldwide. Carolyn Myss says of grace:
...in the middle of the every day tasks of making a living & taking care of our family & friends, we can miss its subtle power. Grace holds together the whole of our life ~ and all of our lives collectively. It watches over us & will come to our aid if we ask. In this last statement is one key to growing more grace in our gardens. Just ask! The Master Gardner is always here ready to help us sow more seeds of whatever we put our heart energy into. A simpler & more challenging task than the asking for grace is simply to honor its presence and allow, allow, allow its flow. Growing grace is really flowing grace ... getting our "dams" out of the way! And in the garden that is our family & the seeds of our children, the best service we can give is to gratefully nurture by abundantly allowing the natural growth of the gift of grace. |
Interfaith Inspirations
If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom. ~Terri Guillemets
March 1st hailed Holi, a Hindu Spring Festival as well as Saint David of Wales Day, St. David being a Christian Saint known for wisdom. Vaisaki is the Hindu New Year celebration this week & the afore mentioned St. Patrick also has his day this week on March 17th. Spring Equinox comes March 20th this year. Here on the Northern hemisphere we welcome spring. In the Wicca tradition, it is a welcoming of spring and Ostara, the goddess-as-maiden. The Wicca observance of the autumnal equniox & harvest festival time with Mabon happens on the Southern hemisphere. Both celebrations mark when day and night are of equal length. Ahh, balance!
There are more New Year celebrations this month: Naw Ruz, the Baha'i New Year &
Norouz, Persian-Zoroastrian New Year on March 21st. The Christain faiths are practicing Lent this month in the 40 or so day period before Easter with Passion Sunday 3/21 & Palm Sunday 3/28. Other March celebrations include Mahavir Jayanti, the Jain honoring of Lord Mahavira, Magha Puja Day, the Buddhist celebration of Buddha teachings & Hanuman Jayanti, the Hindu celebration of energy and strength.
The 8 day Jewish celebration of deliverance from slavery & oppression, Passover begins March 30th. Passover is also known as Pesach. |
Events & Expressions: Conscious Calendarizing!
To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.
~William Blake

Prayerfully Planting
My green thumb came only as a result of the mistakes I made while learning to see things from the plant's point of view. ~H. Fred Dale
(Thanks, Anne)
We remain committed to growing New Thought Families one seed at a time. In looking at seeds, plants, gardens, & even grace, I'm thinking green. As a word, green is closely related to the Old English verb growan, 'to grow'. It is sometimes used to describe money or someone who is inexperienced, jealous, or sick. These days, green also refers to a conscious growing movement of living more simply & cleanly for the sake of our (green) planet. We are waking & returning!A green thumb denotes someone good with plants. Our Master Gardner has the ultimate green thumb! Periods of darkness & dormancy are all natural phases neccessary for growth. But ultimately, we reach for the light. Plants are green due to the photosynthesis process that requires light. We require light too collectively & as individuals. Grace is a lifeline in the darkness & an anchor in the light. Allowing more grace filled light to grow our gardens often takes some weeding, pruning & allowing ... like the practice of giving up something for Lent. I very reluctantly gave up sugar in my dedication to being my highest & best & in repent for eating a whole box of Girl Scout cookies 1 afternoon! My morning meditation whispered the sweet voice of grace to go the 40 days for Lent sugar free. I rebelliously answered that Ash Wednesday was last week & grace smiled back to calendarize the days; Feb 23, Day 1 ... well what do you know, April 3, the Saturday before Easter is Day 40! Who knew that traditional Lent doesn't count Sundays ... shouldn't they count double?! So now I am 20 days free from the darkness of my addiction & lighter, lighter, growing lighter, thank you grace! We are all growing every minute, thank you God! Here's to your growth, to your wisdom weeding & to your seeds springing & singing this Merry March!
Namaste, Love, namaste.
